Sedona Saturday

We went on adventure to Sedona today with our friends, Porter and Erika. We spent half the day just exploring and taking in the beautiful weather and scenery. We had a really fun time and we got some great pictures out of it. Apparently, they grow a lot of apples in Sedona and we found a shed where some old tractors were stored - so the tractor pictures are for you dad :)

Ugly Sweater Party

We went to an ugly sweater party last night and had so much fun! We found a good sweater for me. (It was a little big and itchy. 75% wool. I felt like the Grinch :) I think Trenton made his look cute ;) There weren't a lot of really ugly guy sweaters that we could find.

After we ate dinner at the party, we were given two packs of graham crackers, some frosting and candy to create something other than a traditional gingerbread house. We decided to make a swimming pool with a diving board and some palm trees. It looks better in person than in the picture below, but we thought it turned out pretty well.

This is a Christmas table cloth my mom made us and some of the crafts we did while she was here for Thanksgiving.

It feels more like Christmas than I thought it would here in AZ, but I have to occasionally remind myself it's December when it's a beautiful 67 degrees outside. The low is usually in the high 30's to 40's. The high was in the 50's a few days last week so I had to have some hot chocolate. I think I might die when we go to Utah for a week ;)

I made rolls and broccoli & cheese soup last week. Yum. It was really simple. The soup recipe is on The Girl Who Ate everything Blog - at the bottom of my page. I tried the chicken pot pie recipe on the same blog today and it was really good too!

Thanksgiving

I thought I better hurry and blog about Thanksgiving before Christmas gets here :) My mom and dad came to AZ and enjoyed the 70 degree weather with us. We had a lot of fun. We had a good thanksgiving dinner (we were too busy stuffing our faces to take a picture, oops) made chocolates, did Christmas crafts (I'll put pictures of those up later), walked around the temple and looked at the lights - much warmer than temple square in Salt Lake! It was so fun to have my mom and dad stay with us for 4 days and appreciate them making the long drive down here. Our time together passed by way too quickly. We are looking forward to going home for Christmas!

We went to Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill on Saturday night. A car show happened to be going on that night so we wandered out that for a while after dinner. We saw some cool cars and a few trucks.

Where did October go?

I can't believe it's November! We have been in AZ about 3 months now. It's 65 degrees today and actually feels like fall- I love it! We miss Utah, but we don't miss the snow that's there right now. Last week we carved pumpkins with some other couples in our ward. Thanks to Howard and Kerry for bringing us a pumpkin when they visited us the week before ;) Trenton showed his creativity and carved us a really cool pumpkin. He printed off an ASU decal to trace on the pumpkin and did a great job carving it out. Everyone was very impressed!

We made some Halloween sugar cookies for our Sunday school class. We went to the store in search of Halloween cookie cutters and all we could find were Christmas ones!! So we made do with circles ;)

We only had 2 kids come trick or treating. We weren't sure how many to expect being at an apartment complex. Each unit was given a sign to put out if they had candy. We did..

and we still have candy :)

Conference weekend = rolls

I have always looked forward to conference weekend. Besides looking forward to watching conference on tv, I was excited to be with Trenton and to attempt to make rolls with my mom's recipe. Growing up, conference weekend usually brought yummy food with it so I always get a craving for rolls around this time. Being in AZ, I knew if I wanted rolls I would have to make them myself this time. I'm happy to say they turned out very good! (As you can see I ate 2 before I took the picture :) Maybe it's beginner's luck but I hope they turn out as well next time!

We are officially in Arizona! We are settled into our new apartment and we love it. I will try to get some pictures posted soon. There are a few families in our ward that live in our same apartment complex. A nice couple had us over for family night last night along with another younger couple with two kids. It was fun :) We are adjusting well and we like it down here. Trenton starts school Thursday and I'm hopefully getting closer to finding a job!

Utah Law Day Run

Back in May we did the Utah Law Day 5K Run at the University of Utah. I wasn't sure if I would be able to do it, but I did run quite a bit before hand so I was more prepared than I thought. I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did and it didn't feel as long as I thought it would.

Christine and I finished in about 29 minutes. I think we should be allowed to take at least 2 minutes off our time after weaving through all the walkers and people with baby strollers at first :) Thanks for running with me Christine! Our men did well also, of course, both finishing in 23-25 minutes - somewhere in that range. Trenton did not run at all to get ready because he was so busy with school and all. He still did awesome, though he feels differently ;) My mom woke up at the crack of dawn to get to Salt Lake for the race. It was fun to have her there. She did really well, both walking and jogging parts of the course. She finished in 39 mintues.

U of U Graduation

I finally graduated from the University of Utah! Graduation was on the 6th of May. Thank you to both of our families who came down to support me! I especially want to thank Ash for working so hard the last few years to make it possible for me to finish school. I have had an internship at Utah Open Lands the last few months to fulfill an internship requirement to graduate. The internship has turned into a full time job that I will start tomorrow. Ash and I are looking forward to spending time with our families the next few months before heading to Arizona.

Last week I recieved an acceptance letter from Arizona State University to their master's program in Geographic Information Systems. Ash and I are really excited to move to Arizona in a few months.

We went down a month ago to check out campus and meet with the program director. The master's program will take 11 months to complete. It was a long 10 1/2 hour drive down but well worth it. We looked for apartments and found a few that are close to campus. We also visited Ashlee's Aunt Minnie who lives in Chandler and she rode back to Utah with us. Below are a few pictures from our trip down.

A New Car?!

So apparently Stockton to Malone Honda (now Stockton 12) really needs used Honda cars with low miles on them. They called Trenton a few weeks ago saying they wanted our 2008 Accord that we had been leasing for the past 3 years, so they could sell us a brand new 2011 Accord. Well, they got their wish. We now have a beautiful 2011 Accord (with leather seats). We love it!! We are getting the windows tinted on it this week so it will look even better after that I think. As a bonus to purchasing this car we got a 3 day 2 nights stay somewhere of our choice :) I was more attached to my black Accord than I thought. I was sad to see it go, but someone else will be getting a great car when they buy that one! We also traded Trenton's truck in so we could get this new car. We are down to one vehicle now, which will be hard at times, but it will save us a lot of money. No more insurance on a truck and no more putting gas in a truck!! Yea :) This car ended up being my birthday present since we got it March 24th - the day after my birthday. It's a present for both of us I guess because we will both be driving it. We are excited to be able to ride together everyday and to have a car that will last us for years to come!

WEEKEND

I was finally able to go home this past weekend with Ash because its Spring Break this week and that means no homework! It was good to see family and we even had a few minutes to go shooting. I was itching to shoot my new toy and even got Ashlee to shoot it. I was surprised when she said her favorite gun to shoot was the .357 revolver, I'm just glad she'll go shooting with me once in awhile!

Aquarium

We went to the Living Planet Aquarium on Thursday and had a fun time. It was expensive, but we can say we have been there and we enjoyed it. Definetly something fun to do with kids.

Utah Grizzley's Hockey Game

We went and watched the Utah Grizzley's play hockey yesterday at the Maverik Center. I had never been to a hockey game before. It was a fun game to watch - mostly because there were a lot of fights :) The first fight broke out as soon as the ref dropped the puck to get that game started. The whole team got in on it and pretty much all the starters had to sit out the first 5 minutes of the game. I don't think I got any pictures of that fight because I was trying to take it in :) It was hard to get any good pictures at all - this was the best I could do.

There was a little league team that did played a short game between periods. It was so cute to watch. I couldn't believe how well they skated for how little they were. The Grizzley's ended up losing 4 to 1, but it was a fun game to watch.

Christmas Party

I finally got the pictures that Christine took at our firm's Christmas party. We went to Ruth's Chris Steak House. The food was so good and we had a great time! It was fun to get dressed up and get together outside of work. I'm lucky to work with such a great group of people. Here are a couple pictures from that night.

Thanksgiving

We had a good Thanksgiving this year even though it was freezing outside! Trenton had to work for a few hours the day after so I stayed at my mom's and did some crafts with Karli. It was a lot of fun :)

Millcreek Canyon

My sweet husband took us up Millcreek Canyon today to take some pictures - just the two of us. We got some great pictures just using a tri-pod and the timer on the camera. I'm glad Trenton is smart and knows how to make stuff like that happen. Most of the leaves had fallen of the trees up the canyon, but we found a nice little spot and got some great pics.

Halloween Carnival

We had our ward Halloween carnival on Wednesday night this week. Trenton and I are on the activities committee so we had to help out with the whole thing. We did a potato bar for dinner. Each organization had to do a little game for the kids. The Elder's Quorum did a bean bag toss. Trenton is the 2nd counselor in the Elder's Quorum now. He doesn't teach Sunbeams with me anymore, but the kids still love him. They kept asking me, "Is Trenton coming?" After work I said :) All in all everyone had a good time and it was a fun night.

Utah Football

One of our favorite things to do this fall is go to Utah football games. Trenton is able to get us tickets in the student section, right next to the MUSS section. We drive downtown and ride trax up to the stadium. It's an all day event, but it's a lot of fun. Especially since Utah has been doing so good this season. GO UTES!

Red Castle

Cody, Robin and I went on a backpacking trip to Red Castle, it is one basin to the west of King's Peak. I had a book that told us that the hike in would be 8.5 miles, well that book is full of crap! I photo copied a few pages and took them, well we ended up burnin them the first night to start the first! We ended up going 10 miles to get to the Lower Red Castle lake where we made base camp. This is one of my favorite place that I have been in the Uinta's, the mountains are spectacular!

Thursday we hiked up to Red Castle Lake to fish. We took the short cut and climbed up the face of a steep hill and cliff and got some good pictures up on top. The fishing was awesome! I never thought that it could get better than what me and Robin had last year but it was. We caught so many fish that we count them all!! I'm posting some of the pictures of the best ones. I think my favorite picture is the one of Cody "the novice" fishing from a cliff, if you look close enough you will see he has a fish on! Our original plan was to fish Red Castle on Thursday and then some of the other lakes on Friday but we went back to Red Castle on Friday too, it was just too good to pass up.

Saturday came way too fast! We were dreading the long hike out but the thoughts of eating some real food again help brighten the prospect of walking 10 miles back out to he truck. Lets do it again next year guys!

Gateway and Build-a-Bear

We (me, my mom, my sister, Karli and Issac) went to Build-a-Bear at the Gateway today. Karli was so excited. She chose to do Hello Kitty. She got to push the pedal to fill her Kitty and Isaac's bear up to make them fluffy :) We did a cute bear for Isaac. I will have to take a picture of him with it another day. He wasn't to into the whole thing, but he was very good the whole time. After we were through with that we let her play in the fountains there at the Gateway. After we ate lunch we came back to the apartment and she had to put some "berries" in the bird bath with Trenton so the birdies would have something to eat :) It was a fun day!

Provo River

I went fly fishing this morning on the Provo River up in Heber City. It was pretty crappy weather but the fishing was awesome! I caught a fish, picture below, that was 20 1/2 inches long!! That is by far the biggest fish I have caught with my fly rod. The best fishing always seems to be on the worst days...

Hawaii

We are back from Hawaii. We had such a great time!! We stayed on Waikiki Beach. The weather was amazing and the beach was so beautiful. We are already planning to go back next year :) Here are some pictures from the trip. We will do a more detailed post a little later.

School Projects/Channel 5 news

Trenton has been really busy with school projects lately. Between work and school he hasn't been getting a lot of sleep this past month. Somehow he manages to do it all. He has been getting good grades through all the craziness and I couldn't be prouder of him. He had a group project in one of his classes where they were able to present their project at the City/County building in Salt Lake. Grill

We finally tested out our grill. Trenton put it together a few weeks ago and cleaned a space for it on the deck. He made us some yummy hamburgers for dinner today. I have a feeling we will be using it alot in the future.

It was my birthday last week and I boy did I get spoiled this year. Trenton got me a new iPod that takes video and has FM radio. I love it. He also got me a bike. I haven't owned a bike for a long time so I was really excited about that. We went to The Cheesecake Factory for my birthday dinner and we brought home some yummy red velvet cheesecake for dessert.

My mom bought me a couple pairs of cute shoes and Kerry gave me a gift card to Massage Envy and a cute shirt. I also bought me a couple of dresses with the money I got from other family members. It was a great birthday!!

St. George

Last week we went to St. George to watch the baseball team play. Friday was the only day we could get some golfing in while we were there. We went to Red Cliffs and it was really pretty. It was nice to get on the course and enjoy the sun.

Birthday Fun

Karli is turning 3 on Tuesday so she invited me to go shopping on Saturday and out to lunch since I can't make it to her party. We went to Logan to shop and then went to eat at her favorite restaurant, Olive Garden. She is really into Toy Story right now so I got her a Mr. Potato Head. We also saw a little golf set at Wal-Mart that she wanted so I bought that for her too.

She also got a kitty-cat as an early birthday present. I didn't get a chance to take any pictures of the cat before it decided to run away after 15 minutes. It was dark outside when it ran away so we couldn't tell where it went. We looked around for awhile and couldn't find it. We told Karli we would find it in the morning. It was quite heart breaking. We went to sleep that night and the first thing she said when she woke up was that she wanted to find her kitty. We told her we would get her a new one if it didn't come back. When asked what color she wanted the new cat to be, she replied, "Purple." :) After a long day of fun, the cat came back around 9:30 that night. She was so excited! I was back in Salt Lake by that time. I wish I could have been there to see her reaction. I'm so glad the cat found its way back to her!

Best Valentine's Day!

Trenton and I had a great Valentine's weekend.. thanks to him. He is always 10 steps ahead of me. We are coming up on 3 years of marriage I have yet to surprise him with something big.. or little. First of all he gave me with these flowers and this homemade card. He took one of the pictures we had from St. Martin of our footprints on the beach and he wrote me a little message on the picture. It was very sweet! (Glad he had to buy Photoshop for one of his classes ;) Then he surprised me by taking me downtown to Hotel Monaco for the night. It was a lot of fun to go downtown for something other than work. We both had the next day off so we headed over to the Gateway and went to see the movie Valentine's Day. It was so fun to be able to spend so much time together! It was perfect :)

New Lamp

Trenton found us a new lamp to go in our living room. It's amazing how different the place looks with some light. Our overhead kitchen light and other lamp that we have did not illuminate the apartment very well. You can actually see the place now.

Nothing too exciting has been happening. Trenton is working 30 hours a week and going to school full time. Enough said there. I am still working at the same law firm and enjoying it. It's not so much the day to day things I do at work that I enjoy, it's the work environment I am a part of. Everyone is really nice and everyone gets along. We just hired a new attorney that I will be assisting, so things should be even busier now working for 2 partners and 2 associates.

Ash and I went up to Tremonton yesterday and it was really foggy. I got some cool pictures of the fog. And my brothers and I went out shooting for a little bit. It's always good to go home!

My Project

I was at my Grandpa's house last weekend and he said that he had something for me to do; he went into his closet and pulled out an old beat up .243 winchester rifle and asked if I would get a scope put on it. Not just any scope but one that had the BDC reticle, he had seen it on the hunting channel. I spent hours cleaning the barrel and all the metal parts. The rifle had sat behind the seat of his truck for atleast ten years before it ended up in the closet so it was pretty dirty.

I then proceeded to sand the stock down and get it ready to refinish. It turned out better than I had expected. I wish that I would have taken a before picture, all well. It took a lot of time to get the glossy finish. It has been a fun project and tonight I just got back from getting the scope put on. I thought I had better get it done before school starts again Monday.

Christmas 2009

We had a great Christmas this year. Trenton got me a Wii Fit and lots of new clothes. I got him a mountain bike to ride to school when it warms up. It was nice to be able to spend a lot of time with our family. It was a fun holiday.

Christmas Tree

We finally got our Christmas tree up. We were thinking about getting a real one, but didn't get that far. Maybe next year. I kept wondering why we never got anything to go on top of the tree and I just remembered that last year the top of the tree touched the ceiling in our old place. Needless to say, we don't miss that basement apartment very much :)

The Pheasant Hunt is on!

We had a successful opening day of the pheasant hunt. It was the first time that my dad, me, Eric and Brackon were able to go at the same time. We shot three pheasants, my dad got one, Eric got one and I shot one.

Sunday morning before church Ashlee and I went to the City Creek Park by the State Capital building. We are trying to do better to get out and see Salt Lake City.

Birthdays and Halloween

Trenton's birthday was on the 26th. He got some new cowboy boots and two new suits, all of which look very nice on him! We went to Red Lobster for his birthday dinner and had a good time. I also got us jazz tickets for his birthday. We now have a new nephew that shares his birthday with Trenton. My sister had a little boy named Isaac. We went up to Tremonton for the weekend and got to see him and Karli in their Halloween costumes. Isaac was a monkey and Karli was so excited to be Scooby-Doo. She loves her new brother and is a very good sister to him :)

Lake Mead

Last week we went to Lake Mead with Trenton's family and stayed on Bob's house boat. It was a lot of fun. The weather was beautiful! We fished right off the back of the boat. Trenton helped me catch the fish you will see in the picture below. He got the spot warmed up for me and within a couple of minutes I caught one. We also spent a lot of time saoking up the sun on top of the house boat. It was fun to be able to get away for a few days and just relax. We look forward to going again next year.

Dew Tour

Trenton and I had a busy weekend. We signed the lease on a new apartment! We are really excited to move out of the basement apartment we are in now and get into a bigger place. It's not too far from where we live now, so that's a big plus. We will post some pictures of the place after we are moved in. Later that afternoon we went downtown to the Dew Tour and watched one of the BMX events. We had pretty good seats and were able to get a few pictures. It's definitely different than watching it on tv.

Labor Day

On Labor Day Me, Trenton, Howard, Kerry and Brackon went up to the Uinta's for some hiking and fishing. It was a fun day. The guys showed off their fly fishing skills and caught a few fish. Kerry and I survived the hiking which is always a good thing :) The weather was beautiful so we weren't too hot or too cold, but more importantly we did not get rained on.

We stopped at the Provo River Falls on the way out. It looks much better up close than just looking at it as you are driving past.

Good Bye Minnie

My grandma's sister, Minnie, came to Utah to visit for 6 whole weeks! It was great having her here, but I wish we could have seen more of her instead of just on the weekends when we went up to Tremonton. It seems like she just got here and now she is heading back to Arizona :( We have a lot of fun when she comes to visit and we laugh a lot :) You can tell what a sweetheart she is just by looking at her. We love you Minnie and hope to be able to see you again soon!

King's Peak - Day 1

Robin and I started our 47 mile adventure to King's Peak and back. We left Tremonton at 5:00 and reached the Henry's Fork Trailhead just after 8. We were on the trail by 8:30 and reached Dollar Lake around 12:30. We set up base camp there. On the way in I found a tent in a stream that someone must have lost going out, we kept it and set it up as the supply tent.

We hiked in to Henry's Fork Lake later that night and went fishing. The fishing was pretty good. We had a saying that got us through the trip it was "let's give her "H..." we did and we didn't look back.

The weather was great... we didn't get rained on once and the sun was out the whole time. I went to King's Peak 11 years ago so it was fun to go back up there. Cody, we are going again next year so if your up game on!

King's Peak - Day 2

Robin and I decided to take the day and go hiking and fishing. We first hiked to a waterfall that was close to the base of King's Peak and then we went up to Cliff Lake. I took a video of the valley on our hike.

Blanchard Lake is where we found the best fishing of the whole trip! We hiked down from Cliff Lake and ran into some beaver ponds and a stream that fed into the lake. There were tons of fish swimming around and they weren't scared of you. It was what every fisherman dreams of. We stayed there for 4 hours and we caught 70+ fish between the two of us. I never thought I would be tired of fishing but we were drained. We kept a few of the prize fish for dinner. We caught fish anywhere from 6" up to 15".

King's Peak - Day 3

Today was the day that we conquered King's Peak. We left camp at 8:30 and arrived at the top of King's Peak 12:00. We went up 3,000 feet in about 6 miles; and most of it was boulder hopping. We were going up one of the passes and got behind a sheep herder taking his sheep up Gunsight Pass, the things that look like rocks are actually sheep.

Here are a few pictures from the top of the peak, the elevation is 13, 528. Robin and I both packed in a can of Dr. Pepper to drink on the top of the peak, man was it good!

Coming down we took a short cut, we went down Anderson Pass or the Shute. We did some serious sliding going down it was really steep. Looking down from the top you couldn't see the bottom.

I couldn't help but post this video of Robin coming down the shute. We made it back to camp at 3:00 and we rested for a few minutes and the decided that we wanted to go back and fish our honey hole. It was 9.5 miles from camp to the top of the peak and back. We walked another 6 miles round trip to go back and catch some more fish, they were a lot smarter this time around.

One last look at King's Peak. It was crazy to think that we were up there only a few hours ago. To top off such a great day I fell in the last stream getting back to camp... It was pretty cold! We spent a few hours drying my boots out over the fire that night. The things you do for fun...

King's Peak - Day 4

We wrapped up our backpacking trip, and headed for home. We didn't wake up until 9:30 but we were able to get camp taken down and on the trail by 10:30. It took us until 1:53 to get back to the truck; the last three miles just about killed us! It took everything we had in the tank to make it out! We stopped at the Fort Bridger exit to get some food at the Burger King; warning do not stop there it is hillbilly heck! What a trip! This was definetly one of the funnest trips I have been on!

4th of July!

3 Day Weekend!

Ashlee and I went home for the 4th of July weekend. It was an eventful few days at least for me. I helped my grandpa haul hay, Brackon and I shot carp over on the river and also worked on the 4-wheeler. It seems like these three day weekends come and go way to fast! I'll let Ashlee post her pictures later...

Day at the Ball Park

Last Saturday Ashlee and I went up to Bountiful and watched my youngest brother, Brackon, play baseball. They got killed, but it was fun to go! I took some pictures of Brackon pitching; he does have a nasty curve ball... We went out to eat at Red Lobster after the game. That is our favorite place to eat these days.

Golfing

Trenton has developed a love for golf these past few years and he has brought me along for the ride. (Or should I say walk because we always walk the course). I really like golfing, I just wish I had the time to practice and get better at it. We went out to Fore Lakes this morning, which is usually our routine when we stay in Salt Lake for the weekend, and golfed 9 holes. We were lucky enough it didn't rain on us too much, just a few drops. Trenton did very good, but I reached new levels of sucking today. When one of us does good the other usually does bad it seems like :) but it's always fun to go together.

We had to re-create this picture of me getting my ball out of the hole. The last time we golfed this place I got a hole-in-one on the last hole and we didn't have a camera. The hole was about 120 yards away. I was cussing the shot as soon as it came off the tee because it looked horrible, but it kept running up there, hit the flag stick and fell in. It was pretty cool. So now it's documented because I'm sure it will never happen again.

St. Martin

Trenton and I went on a trip to St. Martin last month and had a wonderful time! It was so fun to see where Trenton served part of his mission. I had never set foot on the beach before or an airplane for that matter. Our traveling went smoothly and the whole experience was even better than I expected it to be. We stayed 4 days and 3 nights, spending most of our time on the beach. We also did some shopping at the little shops in town and brought home a lot of souvenirs . We are so grateful we had the opportunity to go on this trip together and hope to be able to go again someday.

This trip was our 2 year anniversary present to each other. We are so glad we took the time to go on this adventure. It was so nice just to be together and have a lot of fun at the same time. It definitely brought us closer together. The water was so beautiful and so clear! It was pretty warm too. Trenton didn't get a haircut before we left as you can see, but he still looked very nice in his swimsuit!
